About Qiskit Fall Fest 2026

What is Qiskit Fall Fest?

Qiskit Fall Fest is a worldwide movement of student-run events built around quantum computing that include workshops, hackathons, talks from people doing real research, and plenty of chances to meet others into the field.

Behind the scenes, IBM Quantum works hand-in-hand with student organizers across the world to make each local event happen, and University of Windsor has proudly been one of those host campuses. Last year alone, the initiative reached over 32,000 people through events run by 150 student teams globally.

Now the University of Windsor is ready to build on that momentum and bring together an even bigger crowd in 2026!

Ten Years On The Cloud

In 2016, IBM put a real quantum computer on the cloud for anyone to use, the first time that had ever happened. What started as a 5-qubit processor accessible to researchers, students, and curious coders has grown into a global network of quantum systems, used by hundreds of thousands of people to run millions of experiments.

A decade later, that same idea is what makes events like Fall Fest possible: you don't need a lab or specialized hardware to learn quantum computing. You just need a laptop and an internet connection. Ten years in, we're celebrating how far that access has come!

What is Qiskit

Qiskit is an open-source software toolkit for working with quantum computers. Built by IBM and developed with an open community of contributors, it lets you write code that runs on real quantum hardware or on simulators, whether you're just starting out or doing advanced research.

At Fall Fest, Qiskit is what you'll actually get your hands on during workshops and the hackathon. No prior quantum experience is required: if you can write a little Python, you can start building with Qiskit.
